Enhancing Early Education: Opening the Door to Success

My students need new and engaging materials such as gardening tools, ink pads, watercolors, sand, puzzles, and Play-Dough to be successful in their learning.

My Students

Studies show that two-thirds of children who cannot read by fourth grade will end up in jail or on welfare. Many of our students, over 85% in fact, are already low-income. We service a population of students who are at-risk and unable to secure their own school supplies.

Our students are eager to learn and many depend on the school to assist in providing food, clothing, and supplies.

Our goal is to educate and care for our students academically and socially-emotionally. We need clean, healthy environments in order to educate our students to the best of our ability.

My Project

Many children in our school do not have access to hands-on learning materials at home. This is why I strive to keep our classroom full of new and engaging materials that will enhance children's learning experiences and create a lifelong love of learning. Many of these materials will go to helping children learn colors, shapes, letters, and numbers but also social-emotional skills, such as taking turns and persisting in our learning. We need new materials to keep children engaged and consistently learning.

The materials from this project will not only assist children in learning their letters and numbers but also their social-emotional skills through dramatic play.

The gardening tools will be used for dramatic play during our "Trees" Study. We will also use these materials in order to express our creativity while also learning about colors, shapes, letters, and numbers. We will use sand and play-dough to create a sensory learning experience. All items will be used to help children learn in a fun, creative way!

As many of you may know preschool consists of hands-on, play-based learning experiences. This project focuses on gaining some new materials for our daily play-based learning experiences. These materials will be used for several different projects throughout the remainder of the school year.

These materials will go in our centers to engage students in learning. The ink pads, watercolors, sand, and Play-Dough will go to engage children in creatively learning their letters, numbers, and colors as well as making patterns and shapes. The puzzles will be used in centers to refine children's fine motor skills and help students to identify letters, numbers, and shapes. The letter construction set will be used to correlate our "Buildings" Study.
