For my Multilingual students, language can often feel like a barrier, and your generosity has provided the bridge they needed to turn that barrier into a breakthrough.\r\nThe Sound Wall & Phonics Tools:\r\nThe students have greatly benefited by utilizing the hand2mind Talking Mirrors and the Scholastic Articulation Cards. For a Multilingual Learner, being able to see and hear the mechanics of a new language is life-changing. I have watched my shyest students gain confidence as they practice their phonemes with the mirrors, and our \"Better Than Paper\" sound wall has become the most-referenced spot in the room!\r\nThe EcoTank Printer & Picture Dictionaries:\r\nThe Epson EcoTank printer has been a total game-changer. The students are so proud to print high-quality photos of words that are meaningful to their lives and incorporate them into their books. In this way, students are learning vocabulary and discovering it's a way for them to build a bridge between their home languages and English.\r\nOur Welcoming Environment:\r\nThe global flags, papel picado, and vibrant decor have truly made my students feel welcome. They love pointing out the flags of their heritage, and the new classroom rug has become our favorite spot for collaborative literacy circles. It has created a low-stress, safe space where students feel comfortable taking risks with their new language.\r\nBecause of your support, students from Kindergarten through fourth grade are now creating personal picture dictionaries AND visual encyclopedias. Instead of struggling with abstract definitions, they are engaging in thematic visual literacy—pairing high-quality images with labels they've written themselves. This project has fueled engagement as well as independence in students. Our Multilingual Learners know that this project is more than a collection of words; it is a survival guide for their school day. Students have been eager to add more words to their books and play vocabulary games to practice. They have also been using their picture dictionaries to create sentences and add details to their writing. This practice and support has helped students boost their grades in other subjects as well as participate more in classroom discussions.\r\nThe impact of this project has been immediate. I watched one of my older students, who was previously hesitant to speak, use their \"School Routine\" page to navigate a conversation with a peer. This student added a personal touch to his page by including questions he knew he would like to ask throughout the day. With my younger Multilingual Learners, the Letter Hunt games have turned phonics into a joyous daily challenge. These materials have lowered the \"affective filter\" in my classroom, allowing my students to feel safe, confident, and capable as they navigate a new language.\r\nThank you for seeing the potential in my students and for providing the tools that allow their voices to shine. With your generosity and thoughtfulness, you've provided a sense of belonging to students for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1768921276861,"projectUrl":"project/the-dictionary-detectives-building-lang/10001617/","projectTitle":"The Dictionary Detectives: Building Language and Identity for MLs","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Monninger","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6338246"},{"teacherId":2595291,"projectId":9839538,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for donating to my Donors Choose project, Supplemental Resources from Teacher Pay Teachers. It has truly made a huge difference in our class community and culture. When I first revealed it to my students, I used the definition of \"stigma\" as a jumping off point. We talked about taboos and why it is so hard to talk about personal hygiene. My students made connections to mental health, incarceration, academic pressures, and financial struggles, and this project helped make those conversations safe and accessible for students to grapple with major issues they see in their communities.\r\n\r\nWithin the month and a half we've had our hygiene corner, students have utilized almost everything we bought!
