This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach 4th grade ELA and Social Studies to an awesome group of 42 students (2 classes) at a Title I school. The overwhelming majority of my students come from economically disadvantaged homes. 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. These students are faced with many academic, as well as social challenges. Many of my students have experienced unimaginable hardships and trauma during the course of their short lives. For many, school is the only place where they are able to feel safe, have stability, and feel loved.
My Project
My students deserve the best when it comes to 21st-century learning tools. Research has shown that students learn better when they are fully engaged and that multisensory, hands-on learning is the best way to engage them. This board creates classroom environments where students with different learning styles can engage and learn from each other.
For example, a teacher can integrate multiple items into a lesson plan such as websites, photos, and music that students can interact with, respond to verbally or even write comments on the board itself.
Imagine taking a class on a photo safari to Africa complete with embedded videos, animal sounds, and mapping software.
