My Project
This project seeks funding for the acquisition of a distillation apparatus with vacuum pumps to enhance the learning experience of high school chemistry students. This equipment will significantly improve our ability to conduct practical experiments related to purification processes, separation of substances, and understanding the fundamentals of chemical reactions, thus offering students hands-on experiences with advanced chemistry techniques.
The ability to perform distillation is a fundamental skill in chemistry.
It is vital for students to experience this process firsthand to deepen their understanding of chemical concepts such as boiling points, phase changes, and the separation of mixtures. A vacuum pump is particularly beneficial as it allows for distillation under reduced pressure, making it possible to distill substances at lower temperatures, thus preserving sensitive compounds and providing a broader range of experiment possibilities.
Currently, our chemistry lab lacks the proper apparatus to conduct these essential experiments. The addition of this equipment will bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application, giving students a richer, more immersive learning experience. The vacuum pump will also enable us to perform more complex experiments, such as the distillation of compounds with high boiling points or those that decompose under normal atmospheric conditions.
