The students at our school are inquisitive and passionate about learning. They are kind, loving, and compassionate individuals. They love helping their peers as well as staff members. I use the garden project to facilitate student learning in sustainable living, nutrition, technology, photography, business, marketing, and math skills in general. We do some construction and cooking as well. In addition, several of the students win ribbons in the county fair for their projects. These students are amazing to work with.
The students will use different applications in the design...or redesign... of the school garden. They will build spreadsheets to record and analyze data from the garden, take photos and videos to build exciting project presentations, and build advertisements to sell their product as well as to recruit further funding to keep the project going.
The Garden Enterprise Project not only enhances technology skills, but also builds real-world business skills.
We plan to build further activities into our Garden Enterprise. We plan on finding recipes to prepare that utilize the vegetables and fruits we will be growing. This project will highlight technology skills, but there are so many opportunities for hands-on, outdoor gardening skills as well which will be fostered.
