Enhanced Learning Through Technology

Help me give my students access to technology which will increase with additional Chromebooks so they can collaborate on research projects and have the skills to contribute to the global society in which they live.

My Students

I have the opportunity to work with 27 students who are anxious to be inquirers, which follows the focus of Hawthorn Academy. The South Jordan campus of Hawthorn Academy has been open for 4 years, we are growing and developing all the time! Our school believes in high levels of education, and striving to be 21st century learners, one tool of which is digital learning. We currently have 10 devices.

My classroom is not a quiet classroom because my students are excited to learn, experiment & experience their education in hands-on ways.

My students learn how the curriculum we learn in class is applied to their daily lives and why it is important to them. We practice daily what skills they are gaining. Every day, both collaboratively and independently, my students have opportunities to be risk-takers, and principled students. 4% of my class are ELL Students, while 26% of my class are Special Education students. A large percentage of my students need extra support, and the entire class is eager to help, support and encourage each other. Around 36% of our campus are economically disadvantaged, this means they have limited resources available to access, practice and further their knowledge of technology.

My Project

My students will be able to work in pairs, rather than three to a device. More availability to technology will allow for more frequent research opportunities. Students who are low in their learning will now have the opportunity to practice their learning through the programs our school uses 3-4 times a week rather than 1-2 times a week.

My classroom daily rotational groups will be enhanced because each student within the group will have access to an individual device.

The digital skills my students already have will be strengthened and put to more frequent use. Given new requirements for students to have keyboarding skills by age 10, my students will be able to practice and become proficient.
