Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a primary resource special education teacher for a local Title I elementary school in Las Vegas, Nevada. I am currently in my fifth year teaching K-3 students who need extra help in meeting their academic and behavioral IEP goals.

Often times, the one-on-one or small group instruction I offer them helps to provide the extra support and modeling they need to become successful in their general education classroom and throughout the school campus.

My students come from a diverse community of cultural and ethnic backgrounds. They benefit from differentiated learning strategies, manipulatives and the attention they receive in a smaller atmosphere. They are happy and motivated to learn! Each student in my classroom is encouraged and supported through our growth mindset objectives that provide assistance and support to help them achieve their goals and continue learning at their own pace. This year has been quite different from previous years as we embark on Distance Learning due to the Covid 19 Pandemic and have been sent home to teach our students virtually. Many teachers, like myself are severly lacking in electronic devices that we need to provide a quality learning experience for our awesome students.

My Project

The laptop I am currently using to teach my young sped students virtually from home is severly lacking in speed. It does not have many of the features that my school desktop gives me.

I desperately need a new laptop to work with at home so that I can deliver seamless presentations to my students without constant glitching!

It will greatly enhance our short 20 minute sessions without wasted time where we are waiting for a video clip or google slide to download.

Virtual learning and teaching is tough for the students and me! But a functional and decent laptop will help to bridge an electronic hurdle with seamless transitions when multiple tabs are opened. I can only imagine what I could accomplish with a new laptop; the possibilities are endlesss!
