Hooray! This project is fully funded

I am a middle school art teacher in Queens, New York. This year, I have been assigned to teach Computer Art as well as Visual Art. It is my pleasure to do this, and I have already started teaching the students the basics of Photoshop. For anyone who is not familiar with Photoshop, it is computer program which enables the user to manipulate, create, design, and enhance (among other things as well) photographs and artwork. The lessons I have started with involve self portraits. Depending on the grade (I teach 6, 7 and 8), the lessons are slightly different, but all students are learning to use the basic tools in Photoshop while adding their own creativity to their self portraits, which were taken with my digital camera. The students should be able to print out their work so that we can display it for others to see, as well as for their own satisfaction, but at the present time, we do not have a color printer with which to do this. I am planning to teach many different lessons within Photoshop and other computer arts programs such as Quark and Pagemaker. I feel that the lessons the students are learning are extremely beneficial. They can use their computer arts skills to pursue careers in graphic design, advertising, website design, photography, etc. It is very important that they are able to see their work as a tangible, finished product. If they are not able to see their projects completed, they may lose interest in something that could open up doors for them in the future. A color laser printer would be the ideal type of printer for us, as they are built to make color prints and handle large quantities.
