My Students

This year I will be welcoming a new group of Fourth Graders into my classroom. I anticipate that they will be just as eager and energetic to learn as the last group of students I had. Students in my school come from various backgrounds and are a diverse group of learners, all with different needs. I'm hoping this new bunch is as eager to read and learn as previous groups of student's I've had coming through my classroom! I can't wait for them to enter this year "Fired Up For Fourth Grade"!!

My Project

Imagine learning with outdated, old books when you know there are other ways to get information. That is what our students are faced with every year. We all love to learn by Reading the latest edition of their favorite magazine! With Story Works Magazine, by Scholastic, kids can feel the excitement of receiving six editions throughout the school year of this fun and engaging magazine. My students are very curious about the world around them and are developing perspectives on current issues that effect them and their communities. With Story Works, my students will be afforded not only the opportunity to have a magazine in hand (that they can take home and share) but also a range of multimedia options that fit every learning style.

The greatest aspect of Story Works is that it gets students excited to read and explore the world around them!!

Little do the students know, they are practicing close reading, annotation, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension and so much more! It engages students and increases reading motivation along with creating confidence and improving the self-image of students. My students primary come from lower income households, which makes Lakeville a Title 1 school, where a majority of students are on free or reduced lunch. Many of my students do not have resources to obtain reading materials or texts in their homes.
