Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Students learn to read, write and count in small groups. I would like to see my students be able to read simple texts and solve simple math problems independently by the end of the school year. It is difficult for them to learn in a traditional way.
This is a kindergarten through second grade special day class.
Students have various eligibility like learning disabilities, autism, other health impairment or speech and language impairment. They are a group of students who are trying to be like their same age, non-disabled peers. They want to be a part of the bigger grade level group. They go into the general education classes for mainstreaming daily. They learn and make new friends in these classes. Sometimes, due to their disabilities, they need more practice than others or they need more time to work on the assignment. They need different resources like games and hands-on manipulatives to help them practice the newly learned concepts. This is the first year that we have a three grade level span-special day class. In the past, we had two grade levels in one class.
My Project
Various phonic centers help my students learn the beginning sounds, blends, and word families, which will help them learn to read and write. The Number, Addition, and Subtractions Bingo games provide students opportunities to learn and have repeated practices of the basic math facts. I have some students who have difficulties tracing and writing the alphabets so the Stamps See N Stamp Jumbo Alphabet will let them learn to trace and write in a fun way.
These materials made it easier for them to understand and grasp the new concept with a concrete model. These visuals helps them make connections with the alphabet letters.
Your donations to this project will definitely provide my students more resources to help them learn.
They can learn things at different paces and levels. These modalities build on their learning preferences and compensate their deficits. When they can grasp these basic skills for reading, writing, and math, you are helping them to build a stronger foundation and move forward on the path of learning.
