My Project

Each day students, our students, are faced with an overwhelming amount of academic/behavioral demands and expectations. Too often, we forget about the students. We are constantly pushing our students to make up for lost time; and lost learning. The reality is, that we can’t get time back, no matter how much we force it onto our students.

Let’s pause for a moment and reflect on why we became teachers; that was to teach the whole child.

We must acknowledge the reality of living in a society as a functional being. Our students must be able to become aware and able to manage their emotions. If emotions are “in check,” then successful learning will follow.

Receiving the requested items, will allow me to further enhance my students social and emotional needs and wants. I plan on further implementing our social and emotional stations, self-calming check-ins, take-a-break corners, etc. Further enhancing the above mentioned will allow and strengthen my students:

• Awareness of self and others: our students experience big emotions, and it is crucial they have the ability to appropriately manage and express their feelings. One of the most challenging realities to help students become aware of is that it’s not all about them! Our students must be able to empathize with others and have the ability to put themselves into other shoes.

• Self-identity: so many students struggle with self-identity. Being able to develop an awareness of themselves.

• Healthy relationships start at a young age! We must model and encourage our students to develop healthy relationships. Having the ability to actively listen to others, will allow our students to listen effectively and be able to help others, as well as themselves.
