This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Help students discover their world through engaging hands-on science explorations! I am a fifth grade teacher in a high-need community.
All of my students come from low-income families and our school lacks the funding to acquire many of the necessary supplies for learning - especially in science.
I would like to provide my students with new science materials and tools in order to heighten their learning. With engaging, hands-on experiments and lab work, my students will be able to have a more authentic, valuable learning experience. Unfortunately, many of my students and their families do not have the resources to travel outside of their neighborhoods therefore lack many basic, practical scientific experiences. With materials such as graduated cylinders, magnifiers, microscopes, slides, prisms and much more, I will be able to bring world experiences right into the classroom therefore enhancing their ability to explore and understand different scientific concepts.
One of our focus units during the year is light and sound which our school has very few materials for (a few mirrors and minimal lesson ideas). With the kits on sound and light I will be able to help my students meet their academic goals as well as the state and district standards.
Your help in acquiring these essential scientific learning tools will help my students reach their highest potentials and assist in developing a long love and meaningful understanding of science and the world around them!
