My students need the proper tools to help organize and clean our small animal rooms, such as command wall hangers, room and cage cleaning supplies. Together these tools will benefit both the students and animals.
My students have chosen to study and prepare for a career working with animals. Our classroom is a diverse group that can come from 51 school districts in Eastern Long Island. While they may all come from different areas and life experiences, they come together for a common passion- their love of animals! Our classroom cultivates teamwork as a foundation and students support one another. Previous classes stay in touch with their animal science "family". A support system to help foster success!
My Project
During this school year my students will be completing a project to enhance the appearance and function of our small animal room. Care and maintenance in an animal facility is the most important part of their care and something the students certainly look forward to and enjoy. The room is going to be cleared, cleaned, and get a new coat of paint. The students will be researching the best disinfectants and cleaning products and methods of odor control in animal facilities to be able to keep our animals healthy and happy. The supplies I have included like the command mop, wall hooks, and spray bottle holders will help to organize the room and make the cleaning supplies like the disinfectant spray bottles and brooms (also on the list!) easy to locate and store, in additional to increasing their longevity. As you can imagine an animal facility creates a lot of hair and while we have shop vacs the students have advocated to have a smaller easier to use option in the rooms, so I have added one to the list at their request. The cage cleaner and dust pan is used inside the animal cages to help with cage husbandry and once that is done we would like to use the charcoal filters to help keep the room smelling fresh. We will have the proper tools necessary to make cleaning and organize as quick and efficient as possible. Once completed the room will be properly organized and ready to provide our animals with an exceptional level of care!
