Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We are a cultural and linguistic diverse dual language school and my students are in learning in two languages daily with the goal to become bilingual and biliterate by the time they graduate from high school. Some of my students are already bilingual emergents and others are learning for the first time Spanish, English or both. Families are excited to have their children at our school and they want to support their children at home.

This project will allow students and families to check out bilingual books that are highly engaging and at the right reading level.

We are already asking families to read daily at home, but their child are allowed to check out only 2-3 books as week from our school library. This project will allow families to have a different book every night. The best part is that families could read the Spanish, English or both sections of the text with their children. The books will be introduced in the classroom to get students familiar with the books and excited about reading them at home. The book tubs will help keep the books at the different levels organized and the different colors will help students know exactly which books they could read independently. The tape will help keep the book labels in place to help students know which books belong to our classroom library. Reading in any language improves language skills, vocabulary, comprehension, memory focus and even writing skills.

Reading can also bring joy and excitement at any age!
