My students are recent immigrants to the country or first generation Americans. They come from all over the world: Pakistan, Iraq, Nepal, Afghanistan, and China. They came here with a range of experiences and cultural backgrounds. My students come to our school everyday and are provided instruction in English. This is extremely challenging and fatiguing to these students whose native language is not English.
Despite the immense challenge laid out before them, they are brave, little classroom warriors, determined to succeed.
They are inquisitive, creative, and diligent children with whom I have the joy of spending each and everyday.
I often teach my lessons to students in a small group either within the regular classroom or in my own classroom. An important part of my job is studying words with my students. This includes the parts of words, such as syllables, word families, onset and rime.
With a magnetic letter kit, my students will be able to manipulate letters themselves to experiment and play with multiple combinations.
In doing so, they will be able to see the similarities and differences between many different kinds of words. The magnetic letters kit can be used in many different ways and for many variety of purposes.
