Imagine moving to a new country. You walk into a classroom and you may not have ever had any formal education before. You have never read or written and you have this smiling teacher talking to you in a language you don't understand. These are the students I teach. I work in a large inner-city school with 100% receiving free lunch and breakfast.
Many of my students have very limited schooling in their own language and are now thrust into a formal school setting.
We move from learning letters to reading very quickly. My students have come from all around the world, from many different and often difficult situations.
My students need Reading & Writing Instant Learning Centers and English Language Development Skill-Building Centers to build their English skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking
Many of my students struggle with all domains of the English language.
The English Language Development Skill-Building Centers and Reading & Writing Instant Learning Centers will help my students build their knowledge of the English language in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The fact that they can be easily used as a ready to go center is a plus. By working in small groups they will be building multiple skills at once. Being English Language learners they have to take an annual test that assesses them in all four domains.
My hope is to help my students become more comfortable with the English language so by the time they have to take this test they can show how smart I know they are!
