Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My fourth graders are curious and eager to achieve great heights in their lives. Over 90 percent of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

My teaching practice has moved to the Next Generation Science Standards.

The NGSS calls for our students to create their own understanding with regard to science. This method of learning creates critical thinkers and problem solvers. This requires materials for engineering practices and scientific investigations.

My district has no budget for classroom teachers science supplies. My students are very eager young scientists. Who knows, the next Jonas Salk could come from our classroom.

My Project

To teach the Next Generation Science Standards, students need to create their own understanding through the use of hands-on activities.

To make engineering exciting to my young scholars, the roller coaster kit will be the culminating experience for their physics unit.

This activity will show all of the skills they have gained from the unit. The trays will be used for investigations in Earth Science, Life Science, and Physical Science, keeping all the materials contained within the tray. The protective eye wear will be needed for most any hands-on investigations.

Finally, all of these materials can be used for more than one year. I can't wait to watch my students using these materials.
