My Students
Students at our school are incredibly enthusiastic about their learning. Whether it's learning grade-level curriculum from their teacher or exploring new independent ideas. They love absorbing new information.
The one thing my students love more than learning is SHOWING what they've learned.
They will always jump on an opportunity to demonstrate and apply their knowledge. It's so much fun to see their dedication to becoming lifelong learners.
Recently, our class has been on an inventive streak. Students have been taking the standards they've learned in math and science (and art) to design their own creations to be 3D printed. It's been awesome to see students apply skills from class to real world applications, but with our old machine, it has been slow going. A new printer with some fun colors of filament would help each student bring their creations to life right before their eyes (instead of waiting a month or so while our old printer catches up on it's log of projects).
My Project
The last decade of teaching has taught me that students crave opportunities to demonstrate what they've learned outside of just assignments. It's also been proven that students retain their learning better when they use it for practical purposes.
These upgrades to our class makerspace will help my students use what they've learned in class in a practical application.
They will be given the tools to bring their inventions to life. They'll be able to apply standards they've been taught in math and science to solve real world problems and to create their own tools to use at school and to take home.
