This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a high-poverty school, many of our students’ families struggle financially. Parents, although willing and eager, are unable to provide a wide variety of academically enriching activities outside of school, and have limited access to technology at home. Ninety-two percent of our students qualify for free/reduced lunch, and seventy-five percent speak English as a second language. This makes the learning they receive at school even more critical to their success now and in their future.

Our students are sweet, caring, and have a real desire to learn.

They are naturally curious and enthusiastic, and are more than capable of thriving when given a solid foundation. Helping our students reach their full potential is critical to our community's future.

My Project

STEM jobs are in high-demand, and are projected to grow by as much as 28% by 2024 (US Bureau of Labor Statistics). Our goal is to provide our students with the tools they will need to prepare them to be successful in school and competitive in the workforce. Engineering sets such as Keva Planks, K'Nex, and Tinker Toys engage students in the STEM skills they will need in the future.

Students will test their ingenuity, persistence, teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving.

Keva Planks, K'Nex, and Tinker Toys utilize their natural curiosity and enthusiasm for learning in projects designed to familiarize them with engineering basics. Students will benefit from hands-on experience, while also working collaboratively to solve real-world problems.
