Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in one of the most highest poverty school districts in the state, my students are faced with daily challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite these challenges, I am aiming for school to be a safe place where my students can learn, express themselves and their creativity.

My students come from diverse linguistic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

My classroom is a fully inclusive classroom filled with the most enthusiastic and creative learners. This means there are both general and special education students learning together and from one another. Day in and day out, I'm amazed at how they look at the world. Their sense of wonder, curiosity and enthusiasm for learning makes me excited for what the future holds.

My Project

In addition to reading and writing, science and technology has become a vital part of our classroom learning. In kindergarten, children learn best when they are able to explore the world through play and problem solving. Play is the language of children. Right now in our classroom, we have an hour and a half of time dedicated towards play and inquiry based learning. It's the kids FAVORITE time of the day. The challenge is that my classroom is not equipped with the supplies or the budget to enhance the children's creativity, problem solving and critical thinking skills.

How can I provide the most engaging and enriching experiences for my students if I don't have the materials?

From balls and ramps to experimenting with water, children can explore tons of different STEM concepts with the materials requested. As kids build, test and experiment, they’ll develop both critical thinking and early STEM skills including weight, balance, buoyancy and more!
