My students are highly-motivated creative middle and elementary school students. We are working on a variety of hands-on activities that involve every aspect of STEAM. I am very lucky that the middle school students are open to experimenting and trying new things. I would like to start teaching coding and basic robotics with them.
HOPE at our school was created to provide a strong educational community in a very rural setting.
Striving for high academic achievement, and a high rate of post-secondary continuing education, our school extends the conventional K-12 classroom teaching/learning boundaries to include varied educational endeavors, employing multiple mediums, settings and locations to model and promote the practice of lifelong learning.
Our school recognizes that each child is an individual and that they are all creative and need to succeed. Therefore, our school respects and strives to meet the individual needs of all our children in a caring and creative environment and we emphasize the social, physical and intellectual development of each child.
The STEAM classroom could use some updating. The addition of some LEGO kits and tablets will allow students to learn to code, apply engineering concepts, and other vital skills needed for the workforce.
My Project
My Upper Elementary and Middle School STEAM students love, love, love LEGOs! Every time I break out the small number of existing classroom kits, their eyes light up and they dive right in. These students all learn differently, but hands-on activities bring everyone together and allow students to exhibit their strengths. The Lego kits afford a wide variety of building, coding, and engineering opportunities for the students. The iPads are needed to program the Legos.
These LEGO kits and iPads are amazing curricular resources that include the blocks and curriculum needed to excite young minds.
Students will complete guided projects and will have opportunities to explore, be creative and learn to code and program.
