My Students

Our school is a Title I school located in southeast San Diego, CA. I teach transitional kindergarten and kindergarten. I truly feel honored that I get to be a part of many of my students' first school experience. Their favorite things to do are to build, pretend play, do art projects, and explore the world around them. They are full of energy! They have a love of learning and endless curiosity about their world, and teach me so much about patience, perseverance, love, and wonder.

This year our school has been focusing on equity both in and out of the classroom.

I am so lucky to have an ethnically diverse population of mostly Filipino, Latinx, and African American students. I also get to learn from and with many bilingual learners. It has been an absolute joy to provide opportunities for my students to use our curriculum as a mirror to see themselves and

a window to learn about others.

My Project

I am requesting STEM kits and materials to explore pushes and pulls in the classroom. These materials will help my students to explore pushes and pulls (one of our TK and kindergarten standards) in the classroom. The photo printer will allow me to take photos of my students exploring, creating, and building and print them out immediately. After printing out the pictures, I plan to have the students help write charts and books about their learning to display in the classroom. Students LOVE seeing themselves reflected in our classroom charts and signs, and the printer will help me to do this quickly. Students take more ownership of the classroom and their learning when they see themselves in the images and are able to help create their classroom environment.
