My students need the Fairy Tales Problem Solving STEM kit to help the Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks and the Three Bears and The Three Billy Goats Gruff.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Close your eyes and imagine a classroom full of laughter, excitement, and fun. Now take this same classroom and see 22 eager, confident, and full of life second graders who have a pure joy for school and all it has to offer. Notice their smiling faces and the way their eyes light up during conversations. Notice the teamwork and the high fives that are happening all over the classroom.
They are the heart and soul of my classroom.
They know that they are strong, independent thinkers who can accomplish anything they work for. My students may come from economically disadvantaged households but they come to school everyday giving it all that they have.
My Project
My project is aimed at helping my students, who are aspiring scientists and engineers, to discover the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) in their favorite fairy tales. Students will be inspired to use hands-on materials to design, build, then test their one-of-a-kind creations and improve upon them like a real, live engineer would.
Imagine how you would feel if you could help your favorite fairy tale character out of a mess.
Groups of students will help the Three Little Pigs design a house that can't be blown down, build a chair that even Goldilocks can't break, and construct a bridge that keeps 3 goats safe from a troll. As my students use their problem-solving skills to solve design problems, they will also learn about cause/effect, balance, weight, force and gravity.
These STEM activities will allow students to consider the world around them and try to make sense of it the best way they know how: building, creating, dismantling, discovering, and exploring.
Your donation to this project will have a direct impact on their learning for many years to come.
