Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My fourth-grade scholars are always motivated to learn, especially with hands-on resources! They are also inquisitive, hard workers, and quite humorous. (We laugh a lot throughout the day!) When challenges arise, and every day they do, we persevere and humor (and sometimes a quick, little dance) is always part of it! Your contributions to this request will foster such an environment, and provide a fantastic integration of physical computing and engineering with words.

The HD Word Kits have color-coded tiles to support students with their reading, spelling, and phonemic awareness.

My readers will be manipulating these colored tiles, along with letter tiles and magnetic boards, and once they have mastered specific word patterns, they will be ready to start engineering and coding with them! They will use our Chibitronics Chibi Chip Microcontrollers and Makey Makey Invention Kits to code information on interactive posters and even create games with them. They will use conductive materials (graphite pencils, paper clips, metal brads, aluminum and copper tape, and LED circuit stickers) to code their interactive posters. The Lakeshore journals will also be used to code information gathered from the reading. Furthermore, last week I completed a Makey Makey Teacher Development Course, and I learned additional ways to implement physical computing in any core subject. Your donations will support these efforts, and I can't wait to integrate it into our reading/spelling lessons!

Please accept my scholars' gratitude in advance for helping them enjoy and demonstrate their learning through hands-on and computer science integration when reading and spelling.
