it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are all learning English and are all recent immigrants who have come to the United States seeking a great education and unlimited opportunity. They reside in Queens, the most diverse location in the world. In our school alone, you can hear over a dozen languages spoken by more than two dozen nationalities. My students want what we all do--a safe home, good friends, good health, opportunities to learn and grow, and the chance to make a difference in the world.
My Project
My students are excited we finally have our very own Tower Garden to grow veggies quickly and easily. As I explained the system to them, good gardeners that they are, they were concerned about 2 things--"How will we give it the best light?" and "What if we need to move it somewhere cooler or warmer?" While the system itself can grow some awesome veggies under the right conditions, my students are right that it's a pretty immobile piece of equipment with limitations.
Kids are the ultimate engineers--they can find problems to solve everywhere.
The cage and lights I am requesting will allow us to give our plants maximum light no matter where they are, and the wheeled base will maximize its teaching impact by making it mobile. We can test its effectiveness in many locations under different conditions. This equipment will really expand the usefulness of our new garden, as well as give my students new ways to tinker and optimize their gardening skills.
