Engineering a Bright Future!

Help me give my students STEM-based materials like LEGOS and WeDo Core Sets that will help them understand the engineering and design process and develop critical thinking skills.

My Students

Our school serves Title I students who come from both urban and rural demographics. Serving Tallahassee's southwest quadrant, my school's location has been determined to be severely low income, as the median household income for our region is $24,000 per year.

Despite the daunting statistics, my students strive to overcome their circumstances.

The majority of our students face an array of challenges such as poverty, homelessness, transitional living circumstances and more, our students have persevered to bring our school rating from a "D" in 2013-14 to a "B" in 2018-19!

My Project

My students are very bright and hungry for opportunities! Past students who have participated in my class have walked away with both higher grades in science and math, as well as a greater interest in technology and engineering.

Many of our students grow up in poverty, but are acquiring a love for STEM-based experiences as well as perseverance and resilience skills.

The items included in this project will provide equipment and resources necessary for learning about the basic parts of robots while also challenging their creativity. Some of the materials will be used by First Lego League Jr teams as they brainstorm ways that science, technology, engineering, and math can be applied to our everyday living with the 2019-20 "Boomtown Build" theme. Items such as the EV3 Mindstorm kits will provide necessary materials for discovering motors, implementing various kinds of gearing systems, using sensors to help the creation navigate and interact with its surroundings, and more.
