I have the pleasure of working at an amazing elementary school with students from PreK-3. Our school is a close knit community located in a small town on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. I work with 19 amazing second graders. My students are enthusiastic learners and always seek active opportunities to extend their learning.
My second graders are full of curiosity and enthusiasm to learn about the world around them.
They inquire about how things work and love to work with partners, groups, or independently to enhance their skills.
My class includes a diverse set of learners and interests. This diversity helps us build a supportive classroom culture that supports each others strengths and challenges. Each student welcomes new experiences and loves to explore new worlds.
My Project
My students must have opportunities to expand their thinking and create "maker mindsets" in order to be productive citizens in the world around them. Allowing students opportunities to construct, build, and problem solve ultimately creates an engaging platform to develop this mindset.
Engineering practices offer a wide array of chances for students to think creatively, critically, and in complex ways.
The Engineering House and Bridge Sets are a great way to integrate divergent thinking skills and opportunities to persevere. Students will be able to work in small groups or independently to create a variety of houses or bridges and apply maker mindset skills at an early age.
I already received shouts of joy when I previewed the engineering sets with my students. Their enthusiasm and smiles are evidence of their sincere interest in solving problems and exploring possible solutions.
