Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My terrific torchlighters FLY into our school everyday eager to start our day and find out what we get to explore next. We are at a Title one school and the majority of our students receive free or reduced lunch. My students are English Language Learners and are coming from homes where several different languages are being utilized.
Although, they are coming from less than ideal living scenarios they arrive with huge smiles and excitement for learning everyday.
I have the opportunity to work with students in the GIFTED and TALENTED program that crave challenges and new experiences. I look forward to these materials bringing many more lightbulb moments to our class and seeing their faces elated from learning.
My Project
We have big dreams for our classroom this year that include STEM integration and flexible seating. The building blocks will be an addition to our already established STEM station that includes a robot for coding and Osmo systems for hands-on coding in another way along with many other math challenges. I want to engage every learner during this exploration opportunity and would like to continue to add to our STEM toolbox.

The seating choices are ideal because of the vinyl material, they will be easy to clean and durable. It also teaches 2nd graders the responsibility of making wise choices about seating that works for them. Adding this seating to my classroom will improve student engagement and encourage a positive culture.
I have some seating choices for my students already and they persevere through challenges like STEM opportunities or another essential time of our day. I will be using these seating options in my classroom for students to work on projects and have discussions in small groups, and take pride in their classroom.
This year I have students with many exceptionalities and sensory needs. I want to meet their needs so their exceptionalities will shine through to their fullest potential.
