This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a teacher of 20 energetic kindergarten students from a rich diversity of cultures and backgrounds in a Title I neighborhood school in an urban area. Many are second language learners or children with special needs.
My students are enthusiastic and curious about the world around them.
Kindergarten students are active learners whose attention spans tend to be short. I must, however, help them develop the ability to focus, work independently, and self-motivate to reach their individual goals and kindergarten expectations which have risen to hard-to-reach levels for some students.
My Project
Engaging young writers is not easy! The development of good writing is developmental. It can be difficult and frustrating at times for anyone, but particularly for 4 and 5 year olds who are just learning the alphabetic principles.
With captivating materials such as lap whiteboards, Magna Doodles, and clipboards to use when "Writing the Room" student learning will be more playful and enjoyable!
What young learner wouldn't love to create their own book using a colorful blank mini book as a base? The special materials are the "hook" to get the students interested in trying out new skills they have learned. And, activities can easily be differentiated to meet the developmental needs of all learners.
These materials will be used in whole group and small group instruction as well as independent centers.
More than half of students from low‑income households
