This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

There's nothing like a good book. My second grade students need books that capture their interest so that they are motivated to complete their reading homework assignments.

Our school is a K-6 charter school located in an urban neighborhood.

My students are diverse and unique, especially when it comes to their reading interests. With a limited classroom library, it is difficult for my students to find books that are engaging and that are at their reading level. It is exceptionally difficult to engage students in their reading homework assignments without enticing literature.

My Project

In order to scaffold the skills used by avid readers, I need to first and foremost engage my students in the literature in which they read. The "just right" books will engage even the most hesitant readers who often view reading as something that is required at school. Using quality literature books will help my students become interested readers who are able to complete their reading homework assignments independently each night. We are requesting the fiction book Stink and the Ultimate Thumb-Wrestling Smackdown and the non-fiction book Wildcats.

In order to be good readers, students must read and read and read.

In order to become successful life-long learners, my class needs your support in helping us acquire this quality and interesting literature.
