Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My TK- 1st grade Math Lab students are curious mathematicians who thrive when given varied math activities and experiences in a clean and vibrant environment. Prior to our large magnetic dry erase whiteboard easel breaking, students were able to work on engaging math activities on the easel board while other students worked in small groups on other math activities. A new whiteboard easel would help us get back to the exciting and engaging work the board provided.
Additional high-interest activities and materials are also needed to enhance my students Math Lab experience.
The Duplo-Lego Set will provide a new number sense choice activity where students will use the Legos to build the number they choose from a stack of number cards. Individual whiteboards and dry erase markers will allow students to record and share their thinking in both small and whole-class activities, such as during the Duplo-Lego activity and whole class share-out time. The plastic sheet protectors will be used to protect a variety of one-page printed math activities and games. This added protection will allow each activity to be used multiple times while staying clean and intact. Lastly, the Lakeshore Number Practice Books will replace the older stained books we currently use during our number writing center. The Expo markers will be used during this center as well.
Engaging and immersing young students in the world of mathematics is a passion of mine. I strive to provide multiple and varied experiences for my students in hopes of sparking a love for learning and a love for math. However, many of the items wear out over time and I need to reach out to the greater community for help replenishing items and help purchasing new activities. Thank you being that help and support!
