Our classroom is a great place to be, but I know it can be even better. Help me put quality learning tools in the hands of my students!
My students are excited to learn!
At 4th grade, students are introduced to far more abstract concepts but are still bridging the gap between abstract and concrete. They love to draw pictures, read books, tell jokes and play video games. These students come from a variety of backgrounds and homes. Many come from refugee or single parent families and several of them are learning English as their second language, there are even a few with learning disabilities. Our classroom is an equal playing field where all students have the opportunity to feel safe, have fun and learn with their peers. At our school we believe that all students are capable of success, no matter the obstacles they face. In addition to shaping well-rounded people, we are committed to high-quality instruction for every child, every day in every classroom.
My Project
In fourth grade, it's really hard to visualize the things you can't see! My students really need more hands on ways to engage in math. Most of the items I'm requesting are games or tools to practice math. There are real-life problem solving activities and math games that students can use to help solidify the concepts being taught in class. My students do some of their best learning through play. I envision students using these tools daily to practice their math. They would be used as centers, intervention resources or as part of everyday lessons. The folder games are great real life practice for students to work on applying their math skills in more complex situations. The boxes of math activities will also help students to practice their math skills so that they become more fluent with their math skills. The measurement jars will specifically help students to meet national standards regarding measurement and data.
School is about kids.
It should be a fun, loving and interactive place for them to learn. The tools I've requested will help me engage these kids and will help solidify key math concepts they need to be successful outside of school. Ultimately, I want my students to be excited about learning. I really believe that this project will engage my students in ways they never have been before.
