Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a Special Education teacher in a Middle School self-contained classroom setting, in Northeast Alabama. My classroom is combined of 7th and 8th grade students. The majority of the students perform on different cognitive and physical levels. Many of my students are unable to to express their wants and needs through verbal and written expression.
My main goal is to find new and inventive ways to promote a stronger and more engaging learning process that would benefit each unique need for all of my students.
This group of students are eager to learn and are very hard working. My students are ready to take on new adventures to achieve their goals.
My Project
The use of the MimioTeach Interactive Whiteboard will promote active engagement for my students. With my students cognitive and physical capabilities being on many different levels, that can cause difficulty in finding appropriate ways that each student can engage and participate in activities with all of their peers. With some of my students being nonverbal, they are unable to communicate their answers and formulate written responses in relation to work tasks. This device would give those students a voice.
Technology is continuing to grow each year and I want to give my students the opportunity to be just as involved and engaged with new ways of learning, just as their peers in the general education classroom setting.
My students learn best when provided with hands on and visual activities. With the interactive board, this will provide the students with fun ways to increase their mobility and learning style by being actively involved in fun education games and helping to increase their communication and social skills with their peers. Having something as this in our classroom would give my students the chance to get excited about learning and through a way that meets their individual need.
My students would be so excited to have this device in our classroom and have the opportunity to see that learning can be fun!
