Engaging Today's Special Needs 21st Century Learner

Help me give my students a classroom laminator, laminating pouches, a Cricut maker, cardstock paper, colored paper, and Cricut material to promote sensory and interest in today's 21st-century learners.

My Students

I teach a special education program that specializes in services for students with a range of disabilities. This program emphasizes the social-emotional needs that impact the academic achievement of students. My classroom services a total of 9 students. I teach a combined 4th and 5th curriculum with 8 boys and 1 girl. These students are an energetic bunch that loves to socialize have a variety of sensory and behavioral needs that impact their ability to achieve the grade-level curriculum. Many of them come from abused and neglected homes. One of my students is currently categorized as homeless.

My Project

Gone are the days when are able to learn from a textbook. Today's students are thinkers. They are used to the imagery they see on TV and in games. School is boring for many of them. Therefore to combat this I'm constantly thinking of ways to engage my 21st-century learners.

I teach an energetic group of special needs students, some that have multiple disabilities, and thus I am challenged with constantly presenting learning in new, fun, engaging, assessable, and relatable ways.

The laminator, laminating pouches, Cricut maker, cardstock paper, and other supplies will not only help me create more engaging visuals to support their IEP needs, but I will finally be able to laminate materials using 5 mil thermal pouches that aren't easily damaged. They are much more durable than the standard. I truly want to make a greater impact. Please help.
