This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are 2nd graders to 6th graders, that have speech-language delays/deficits ranging from articulation delays to autism. My students are eager to effectively communicate within their social and school environment.

We work on communication during speech therapy sessions to improve the ability to communicate. The thoughts and ideas of our students are important! To be able to state information and retell a story intelligibly and in sequential order is important to express ideas and information. We need fun, motivational tools to assist improving our speech-language skills.
Our school is a Title 1 school with over 75% of the students receiving free/reduced lunch. We have a large number of students that participate in the backpack program that provides food for the weekend.
My Project
Speech therapy targets identified students' area of deficit/delay working to increase functional speech-language skills. Speech therapy targets the following areas: articulation skills, expressive language, receptive language, social skills/pragmatics, fluency and communication using AAC.
Presenting engaging, fun activities encourages and promotes learning and skill carryover while addressing specific speech-language goals.
The books, games, manipulatives and flash cards will all provide fun, educational hands on learning. The books, flash cards and manipulatives can also be utilized during virtual lessons when virtual sessions are necessary.
Speech therapy is often practice, practice, generalizing and carryover to gain skill level. Having new engaging materials will increase the excitement of speech therapy and excitement of learning and practicing areas of need.
