This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students have been exposed to many different book genres this year, but they all have their favorites. Some are drawn to graphic novels, others to realistic fiction, and others devour books about "gross," but true scientific facts. By providing my students with a book of their choice at the end of the school year, my desire is that my students keep this reading momentum going throughout the summer.

Kids deserve to read books that are of interest to them, and they deserve to read books that are about topics and subject matter that they enjoy.

By providing my students books at their reading level written by their favorite authors and in their preferred genres, they are more likely to read during the summer months. Graphic novels such as the series "Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear" and "Heartstopper" are popular amongst my students. Students have also enjoyed reading through the, "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" series this year, as well as any good horror story.

Because of donors like you, my students can continue to build their literacy skills during the summer while simultaneously getting lost in a great book.
