Engaging Students With VersaTiles Math Practice

Help me give my students a second-grade VersaTiles® Math Classroom Kit, filled with hands-on activities and games for skills practice with its own self-checking answer system to provide students with engaging practice while they develop their math skills.

My Students

My group of second students includes 90 students from several classes, with several highly gifted students and several students with great reading/writing deficits. My Title I school is filled with a wonderful, hardworking group of students located in southwestern Pennsylvania.

My students still have that child's sense of wonder that keeps them asking questions, solving problems, and searching for things to learn.

I want them to always love to learn and to become 21st-century learners.

The students at our school come from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. Some have so very little at home. They have few opportunities to go places and explore. All of my students have something special inside of them. Sometimes no one shows them how special they truly are. I hope to be one of the people in their lives who allow them to see their uniqueness.

My Project

It's long been known that the more that students practice math, the better they will be at math. The struggle every teacher faces is how to provide enough practice without making students hate math.

VersaTiles Math sets are an engaging way for students to practice the very same concepts and skills taught during their daily lessons in a meaningful and productive way.

Through the use of activity books that engage the student in meaningful problem solving, VersaTiles provides students with a fun way to solve problems that also allow students with a self-check answering system students will also find fun.

My project will allow my students to utilize the VersaTiles sets in meaningful independent practice while providing me with time to work with struggling students. However, VersaTiles also provides the struggling students the opportunity to be successful with independent practice as well, due to the self-check answering system.
