This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a Title I school in NYC where we are experiencing the toughest times. My students are already faced with so many economic hardships, so I can only imagine what they are experiencing during this pandemic. Many students are just receiving their devices for online learning and are having difficulty navigating their work.
We are using Google classroom as our platform of learning.
Since the mayor didn’t cancel school until a Sunday night, I only have my laptop and a few books home. I have been relying on the internet to get different resources from.
My Project
Teaching from home has been a huge change for myself and my students. It was a lot of trial and error to see how to best reach my students and keep them engaged in online learning. They quickly fell in love with BOOM cards. Boom cards are digital, highly interactive task cards for students to solve.
What is so great about these cards is that students are engaged throughout each set of skills.
They are able to practice multiplication, place value, fractions, and so much more. Currently, I buy them from the Teachers Pay Teachers website. My students love working on these skills and I love providing them with an interactive activity. However, it can be expensive for me to buy these cards daily.
I am asking for a Teachers Pay Teachers gift card to buy sets of BOOM cards that I can assign to my students now and also use next year. I will be able to assign the students a set of cards related to a standard we are working on. Please think of helping my third graders strengthen their math fluency from home! Fluency is a fundamental part of math!
