Help me give my students engaging informational texts that will spark their interest for reading to learn. Time for Kids, Scholastic News and the other magazines included in this project will expand my students knowledge about our world.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are hard workers who want more opportunities to grow and learn, but they do not have all of the tools to do so. I teach third grade at an urban city school.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom.
These challenges may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical." From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me.
My Project
Through using magazines such as Scholastic News, Time for Kids, Faces, and National Geographic for Kids, I want to create lessons that support our reading and writing using informational texts. These magazines will increase student knowledge of current events, technology, animals, cultures and more. While also increasing their love of reading to learn.
I would like to provide my students with these reading material that because they are all current, relevant, and engaging.
In addition to providing a great resource for reading and writing lessons, these magazines will expand my classroom library and expose students to a different type of print during their independent reading time. Students in my classroom often read books and online texts but these magazines will help them understand that they can learn from all different types of print. This project will help them to become informed and diverse readers.
