Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My class is composed of 55 fifth graders in a general education class, with students with IEP and ELL learners and special education students such as autism.
A typical day in my classroom looks active.
My students are engaged in learning activities that get them moving, talking to their peers, and asking great questions. You will not see a lot of worksheets in my classroom. My students are learning through hands-on experiences.
I teach in a Title I school.
My fifth-grade students come from very diverse families. I am excited to share that my school is a genuinely diverse community. Not only do students come from varying ethnic backgrounds and places, but the life experiences that they’ve had are incredibly unique. My scholars are creative, thoughtful, and full of excitement!
My students are 9 and 10-year children that love coming to school. When school was closed in the spring of 2020 due to the pandemic not only were the kids wanting to come back but we missed seeing their smiling faces every day.
My Project
What a wonderful plan will it be it enter a classroom where students are having enrichment conversations, asking questions, facilitating discussions, and especially having fun! this is something I advocate in my classroom. This is my goal supporting, Engaging Students in Learning, teachers need to provide engaging opportunities, promote teamwork, use engaging materials, and give students time to reflect on learning – especially in a virtual environment and in remote settings in the school year. Using discussion protocols such as two cents protocol, carousel protocol, fishbowl, and many more we will be able to use them because of this. In addition that my students will have their own materials to be able to write and illustrate their learning. The use of anchor charts, notebooks, and a variety of markers will help facilitate this enrich discussion in the classroom. I am requesting different tools so the groups can be in a safe social distancing protocol. Have suitable instructional materials necessary for the lesson available for all students such as anchor chart paper and markers and notebooks for all. The students will also be able to use all these materials to address the following;
• Augment school-issued materials with instructional materials from other suitable sources as appropriate.
• use online and electronic articles to engage students in discussion.
• Invite students to create or identify their own learning materials.
Use flexible grouping including whole-class learning; pairs, triads, and quads; student-selected groups; teacher-selected groups; and random groups.
• Decide on grouping according to the instructional purpose.
• Assign students to groups in various ways, such as by interest, readiness, or learning style preference.
• Directly instruct on the roles and responsibilities of group members.
• Ask students to assess their own effectiveness in the group and the effectiveness of the group.
