"YES! I DID IT!" Those words are music to my ears when it comes to students learning. The fact that they put all their effort into one task and they were able to achieve that is the BEST part of teaching.
My students are my kids, and I treat them as that.
They are loved and disciplined at the same time while being taught. I hear the excitement in their voices as they grasp different concepts, and to hear the laughter in the room as they are collaborating makes my heart smile!
I wish I could provide everything my students need to be successful in my classroom but sadly, I can't! But what I do know, is that there are amazing people out there willing to help educators get the resources they need and for that I say thank you!
My Project
I have seen multiple classrooms use flexible seating for students and I always used the excuse, "6 year olds can't handle that!" I have realized that 6 year olds can accomplish A LOT and be more creative than adults. I have come to the realization that some things hinder student learning, like comfort.
I would love for my students to be so comfortable in their learning environment that it doesn't feel like "school"!
I have noticed as the years have gone on that students sit in chairs MUCH differently than when I was in school. They constantly have their feet moving, they sit on their knees, and they want to lean on tables. So why not make it easier for them and give them choices pertaining to how they want to work!
I chose beanbags, lap trays, and floor pillows to get my students engaged in their independent work. I want them to feel like the school is a second home instead of it being a place of dread. I want students to get excited to walk into my classroom and see that they can choose their seat, and be comfortable throughout the whole day!
