Engaging Science Students With the Fetal Pig Dissection

My Students

I teach 9th and 12th-grade students in Biology and Forensic Science classes at our local high school. Although my school serves a diverse array of students, they share one commonality- they all need a caring adult that will foster their love of science. One way that I seek to foster that love of science is with engaging, hands-on lab activities.

My Project

It is my goal to offer engaging Science activities for my Biology and Forensics students and the fetal pig dissection does just that! It's a favorite in all of my Science classes and I love to see my students actively engaged in the experience that this lab provides.

Many of my students will pursue a degree in the medical field, and having a strong anatomy background in high school will serve them well in the future.

The pig dissection is a way to prepare those students for the next level of Science education. My students will use the pig dissection as a method for learning the anatomy of the human body. The hands-on experience of a fetal pig dissection will assist them in their understanding of the concepts taught in the anatomy portions of our unit and be a memorable experience for all of my students.
