My Students

My school is Title I and located in a small North Carolina town. It has a diverse population in which the majority of the students are economically disadvantaged. Almost half of my students are also learning English as their second language. My students are full of enthusiasm about learning but often come to school without the necessary tools. As their teacher, I want to provide them with all of the resources they need in order to learn and be successful.

My Project

My students are in need of extra practice to help develop and expand their language skills. I would like to be able to provide them with fun games they can take home in order to do so. These materials will also allow the parents to interact with their children which, in turn, will improve their reading success in school. While work done in the classroom is essential for setting the foundations of understanding, home learning is crucial for reinforcing concepts on a long-term basis. Involving families in playing games with the students, encourages discussions about school while having fun. These language skills games are a perfect way to have students and families interact, while students improve their reading skills.
