My Students

My students walk into my classroom every day full of life and eager to learn. The excitement in their faces when they have learned something new is priceless. "Mrs. Huber, look, I can write the number 2!"

I teach at a Title 1 school in Connecticut where 100% of students receive free breakfast and lunch.

My school is one of the largest elementary schools in the district and it seems as if we have the least amount of resources available for our students and staff. Many of the children do not attend preschool or speak another language. Many lack the basic skills when entering Kindergarten. My students love coming to school and deserve the supplies and resources they need to be successful.

My Project

My students were introduced to the DAILY 5 during our literacy block, which encourages and supports students to be independent learners, even in Kindergarten. I find my students very engaged in their learning when they are working independently.

I am very proud of the progress my students are making this school year, but our classroom lacks multiple opportunities to engage students in reading.

In Kindergarten, we focus on the importance of listening. Personal CD players will allow the children to listen to other's read fluently as well as help them to develop their listening comprehension.

Every child will get a box that will help to store leveled books the students will be able to access easily. The storage carts will help our class organize all of our materials that will be used during literacy and math rotations.

All of these tools will support my current students as well as students for many years to come. Thank you for your generosity; we are forever grateful.
