Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My incoming 5th graders are a diverse group-ranging in different ability levels, cultures, languages spoken, and interests. Unfortunately, not all students have access to current, engaging texts at home, so it is important they have engage in different types of text within an academic environment.

It is my goal to give them as much knowledge and experience with different texts, so they may discover new interests.

Literacy and knowledge is important to every student's future. I want my students to feel the power that words have to offer. I want them to feel a sense of excitement about discovering something new.

My Project

My students come in contact with many different texts every day. It is a difficult task, as a teacher, to constantly find free reading resources, especially texts that are relevant and current to students today. It is important to me that they interact with as many pieces of literature as possible.

Time For Kids and StoryWorks magazines are great resources that have many different engaging texts that interest students.

Students will use these texts to learn about new topics and make discoveries. Students will engage with these texts in their literacy centers. These texts will help them practice specific reading skills in centers. In addition, I will utilize these stories within our whole group instruction.
