My Project
As a special education teacher, creating lessons that involve multisensory activities is essential for my student's to learn. Attending and learning is difficult for my students with special needs and having hands on materials from year to year is challenging due to the daily use. Incorporating therapeutic, sensory, high interest and tactile materials in reading and math such as the counting pop-its, favorite books, mini stuffies to count and categorize, and the tactile letters will help scaffold my academic lessons and set my learners up for success. My students have difficulty with fine motor, anxiety, learning delays, social skills and low frustration tolerance which impacts their social and academic development. Having a collection of multisensory materials will help them socialize with peers (initiating play with favorite activities), use calming strategies with the water bubbler, calm ball, kinetic sand, fidget toys, and enthusiastically learn to follow a task from start to finish so they ultimately can work alongside their peers in the classroom.
