This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a class of very energetic, enthusiastic and sweet Kindergarten students. They are inquisitive and eager to learn all that is presented. In Kindergarten they are doing more reading and writing each year, I would like to give them options for independent practice, that will help them become lifelong readers and writers. I want them to learn that reading and writing can be fun.

This project will provide my students with some fun reading and writing games that will engage their attention during center time.

My Project

Kindergarten is the first introduction for many children to learning to read and write. Young students learn and retain more information when they are doing things with their hands. These requested sight word games, vowel practice and sentence building activities provide the needed reinforcement of skills in a fun and engaging way. Through play the children are practicing and learning while having fun.

I would love to have playful activities that will instill a love of learning as they develop critical reading and writing skills.

These activities, games and centers will make the learning more enjoyable, due to the fact that they will be learning by doing. Hands on, engaging activities will allow the children to become more confident students, and independent workers. Kindergarteners learn best when their minds and hands are busy. My students have boundless potential energy and I would like to engage that into academic success.

My students are more engaged when given "hands on" choices for learning. After all, playing a game to learn a skill, is more exciting, than doing a pencil and paper activity. The benefits of the sight word games, vowel practice and sentence building skills, are that the children can work with a partner or independently and more individualized learning takes place.
