My students are energetic youngsters with a drive for learning new information in fun and innovative ways. Many of them have more energy than they know what to do with. This can make it hard for them to stay seated in a traditional learning environment.
These students are yearning for a more adaptive environment to suit their learning needs.
In our classroom, we work collectively to create a positive learning experience for all. As each student's needs are different, I must adapt my teaching styles and the classroom vibe to accommodate my students. It is my hope that they will leave my classroom at the end of the year thinking that this was not only their classroom for a year, but their home away from home.
My Project
As a classroom teacher of younger children, I often use movement to help keep my students engaged in their learning. Allowing my students to choose their seating will allow them to find which seat will help them stay focused and create the best learning environment for them.
The movement that alternative seating can provide for the students can assist them in learning more effectively.
Exercise balls will allow students to have the slight rocking back and forth movement and foam kneeling cushions allow students to change back and forth from kneeling to a sitting position. The stools and seat cushions will be used to allow students who prefer a more traditional seating option.
