This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at an inner-city Title I School, where all of my children receive free breakfast and free lunch. I teach twenty 1st graders. They face hardships that they encounter at home. Many are from broken homes where there is only one parent, severe family illnesses or their siblings/guardians are their caretakers.
My first graders are so much fun, energetic, playful, and oh, so curious.
They show up at school always optimistic about the day, despite any extra challenges that many of them face outside of school. For that reason, these students deserve to feel like their education matters. This year funds are scarce and supplies are limited, however, the need to succeed is necessary.
My Project
Not all students learn the same way. I have many kinesthetic learners in my class who will benefit from learning through activities. Students will be able to take the information that they learned from whole group time and apply it to activities during center time that will engage them and allow them to interact with math skills.
Each of these puzzles, power pen games, and folder games will be used during our center time after whole group.
Students will be in groups playing these games to apply their skills that they are learning in whole group. It will allow the students to have a deeper understanding of the material in a hands-on environment.
