My Students

The classroom environment needs to reflect the learning that students are doing throughout the day. In order to achieve this, I need organized pocket charts, early readers, and various literacy materials.

My Kindergarten/1st grade students come from various ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.

The community surrounding the school is a high-needs area in an urban public school district. I have the privilege of providing my students with their first school experience and I want to make it an interesting and engaging experience for every one of them. As a first-year teacher, I need help in equipping my classroom with all of the resources that will help my students become better readers and writers.

My Project

I want to build my classroom library as well as the walls around my classroom so that students are learning new sight words and other vocabulary words throughout the day. The pocket charts will help to organize those words, and teach new word families during guided reading groups. The early readers will serve as literacy center choices, and will help my beginning readers to build confidence in their reading skills.

Helping students to develop a passion for reading starting at an early age is the best gift that we as educators can give.

In order to motivate my students at a developmentally-appropriate level, I find that these rhyming sound tubs, early readers, and pocket charts will provide the experience for students to be engaged and have fun learning! Thank you for taking the time out to read about this project. Please help my students meet our goal to become awesome readers!
